When marketing activity doesn’t add up to market distinction

DHL B2B came to DPDK with a marketing challenge: plenty of marketing activity, but a need for sharper strategic coherence.

Marketing activity was moving across every channel. But beneath that activity was a bigger strategic challenge: the work wasn’t yet adding up to a distinct, ownable market position.

In a logistics market where most players make the same promises - reliable delivery, competitive pricing, digital tools, convenience, sustainability - DHL needed more than another campaign. It needed a sharper brand story.

The challenge was to turn fragmented marketing activity into true Brand Focus: one shared strategic narrative that every campaign ladders back to.

Impact

  • Clear Brand Focus that connects DHL’s campaign activity, business ambition and customer relevance into one coherent growth story
  • Stronger brand preference through a sharper Brand Focus for SME customers, helping DHL move beyond functional logistics claims toward a more human and commercially relevant market role
  • Scalable campaign and content foundation with a strong Brand Focus, built to support marketing channels with consistency and long-term brand-building impact

STRATEGIC FOUNDATION

Reframing DHL’s role from logistics provider to enabler of entrepreneurial progress

DHL Strategic Foundation

DHL operates in a highly competitive logistics market where business customers often choose on price, convenience and reliability. While DHL had the scale, network, expertise and tools to stand out, it risked being perceived by SME customers as large, international and distant.

DHL needed to move beyond isolated campaign messages and build a consistent narrative that could connect emotional relevance with practical proof, while supporting both awareness and lead generation.

By helping DHL find its Brand Focus, DPDK shaped that narrative from a customer intimacy perspective, creating a clear strategic position in a market where larger competitors often lean into being either the best or the cheapest. This opened up a valuable space for DHL to claim: the partner that understands its customers' realities and gives them the confidence to move forward.

This reframed DHL’s role from logistics provider to growth enabler: a partner built around what entrepreneurs need most: control, flexibility, reliability, practical support and the feeling of being understood.

The narrative now serves as a compass for decision-making, communication and innovation. It aligns internal culture with external perception. By creating emotional differentiation in a largely rational market, it lays the foundation for stronger brand preference and long-term growth in the Dutch B2B market.

Performance acceleration

From narrative to activation

DHL Performance Acceleration

The first visible expression of the strategic narrative launched in February 2026 with a B2B awareness campaign built around the “people behind your ambitions”.

Timed for a quieter period after the end-of-year peak, the campaign spoke to SMEs as they reset, reflected and reassessed their partnerships. Instead of relying on abstract service claims or generic logistics imagery, it made the invisible visible by showing the real people behind DHL’s network: drivers, sorters and account managers.

By putting names and faces to operational roles, DHL showed entrepreneurs that behind every shipment is not an anonymous system, but a team of professionals working on their behalf.

For Webwinkel Vakdagen, the largest digital commerce trade fair in the Netherlands, DPDK helped turn DHL’s stand from a passive presence into an experience built around approachability, energy and relevance. Coffee-bar activations and booth materials all became opportunities to express DHL as a practical, human partner for entrepreneurs.

For the upcoming “Vaste Tarieven” campaign, DPDK is helping DHL frame a hard-sales proposition through a more customer-aware lens. The campaign focuses on fixed prices, but grounds the offer in a deeper entrepreneurial need: certainty, control and practical reassurance when planning ahead.

This approach ties directly back to the overarching DHL narrative, which acts as a consistency umbrella for the brand, ensuring that even conversion-led campaigns remain focused, recognizable and connected to what DHL stands for.

As the campaign takes shape, the strategic direction shows how DHL’s narrative supports both brand-building and conversion-led initiatives. It turns a commercial offer into a message that feels relevant to the realities of running a business, positioning DHL not just as a logistics provider, but as a partner that helps businesses move forward with confidence.

FINAL OUTCOME

Brand Focus as the foundation for long-term preference

DPDK helped DHL shift from “What campaign are we making?” to “What role do we want to own in the market?”. That shift created a clearer Brand Focus: a strategic foundation connecting DHL’s market relevance, distinctive voice and long-term brand-building efforts. Instead of another campaign idea, DPDK helped shape a system that gives DHL more consistency across touchpoints, stronger team alignment and a sharper role in a market where sameness is often the default.

The result is a brand-building foundation that helps DHL move with more coherence, build preference over time and turn strategic focus into execution.

Turn marketing activity into brand-building momentum.
